In the world we live in, we often strive to build secure lives — chasing health, success, careers, family, and material comforts. But have you ever stopped to ask: what happens when these things vanish?
One day you're healthy, and in a second, you're sick. One day you're employed and thriving, the next you're dismissed. The house you spent your life building can turn to ashes in minutes. Family you love deeply can be here today and gone tomorrow.
In a world that is fleeting and uncertain, who remains your anchor? Who is the constant when everything else falls apart?
The Deception of Prioritizing the Temporary
We live in a system that tells us to prioritize our desires:
• Focus on your health
• Build your career
• Secure your family’s future
But these things are fragile. They can change in a heartbeat.
“What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” (James 4:14)
We place our hope in things that are temporary, forgetting that life on earth is fleeting. Imagine spending years building your career, only to lose it overnight. Imagine putting family above all, only to experience loss.
Who will remain your anchor when these things disappear?
The Bible reminds us:
“The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.” (1 John 2:17)
God, the Eternal Anchor
The truth is, God is the only constant. He is the unshakable foundation in a world that constantly changes. Everything else is temporary, but His presence is eternal.
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)
When you put God first, you anchor yourself in something that cannot be shaken. Your health may fail, your job may end, your loved ones may leave — but God never changes.
The Danger of Missing God in the Pursuit of Life
Many of us are so busy chasing life’s demands that we forget to seek God.
We pursue careers, wealth, and achievements, thinking these things will secure our future. But what happens when our life's work is destroyed?
Imagine spending decades building a home, only for it to be reduced to ashes in minutes. What was all that effort for?
Jesus warns us about this kind of misplaced priority:
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven.” (Matthew 6:19-20)
If you miss God each day because you are too busy with life’s demands, what will you have left when the temporary things fade away?
Repenting of Idolatry
I personally repent for putting myself first — my desires, my achievements, my plans. This is a form of idolatry.
“You shall have no other gods before me.” (Exodus 20:3)
Idolatry doesn’t always look like bowing to statues. Sometimes, it’s placing our trust in health, wealth, careers, or even family above God.
But God calls us to turn back to Him.
“Return to me, and I will return to you,” says the Lord Almighty. (Malachi 3:7)
Living for Eternity
I want to wake up one day and stand before God with a soul so full of His presence that my life on earth was merely a preparation for eternity.
This world is fleeting.
Our possessions won’t last.
Our achievements will fade.
But a life anchored in God is eternal.
Paul reminds us to focus on what is unseen:
“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” (2 Corinthians 4:18)
The Only Worthy Priority
At the end of it all, nothing is worthy to be put before God.
• Not our careers.
• Not our health.
• Not our family.
Only God remains constant through life’s uncertainties.
“Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33)
Let us put God first. Let us anchor our lives in His eternal presence. Because when everything else fades away, only God remains.

God is the only constant, we all are variables. Thanks for sharing this.
