Life often feels like a roller coaster. There are moments of joy when everything seems to be going right, and there are moments of fear, doubt, and overwhelm when things spiral out of control.
Imagine standing at the entrance of a massive amusement park, looking up at a towering roller coaster. You hear the excited screams of people being thrown up and down, spinning through the air. You know they’re strapped in. You know they won’t fall because they’re secured by harnesses.
When it’s your turn to get on, you’re strapped in, too. The harness locks you in place. You know it’s safe. And yet, as the ride takes off, you still feel your heart racing, your hands gripping the seat. The safety harness doesn’t take away your fear or the overwhelming rush of emotions.
And let’s be honest — there’s a part of you that can’t help but wonder, What if the harness fails?
The Difference Between Life’s Safety Nets and God’s Promise
The truth is, the harness could fail. It’s rare, but it happens. Machines break down. Safety mechanisms fail. Life is full of risks.
But here’s where God’s promise is different: God’s love will never fail.
Unlike human-made harnesses, God’s promises are unbreakable. He has promised that He will never let you go — no matter how chaotic life gets, no matter how hard things feel.
In Isaiah 41:10, God says:
"Do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous hand."
His love is like a safety harness that will never snap. Even when life throws you up and down, through twists and turns, you are secure.
But What About the Fear?
Even though you know you’re safe, you still feel afraid.
Even though you know God will never let you go, you still feel overwhelmed.
That’s normal. The promise of security doesn’t take away the feelings.
Think about Peter, one of Jesus’ disciples. There’s a powerful story in the Bible where Peter experiences fear even while Jesus is right in front of him.
One night, the disciples were on a boat, and Jesus came to them walking on water. Peter saw Jesus and said, "Lord, if it’s really You, tell me to come to You on the water." Jesus told him to come.
Peter stepped out of the boat, walking on water toward Jesus. But then, Peter saw the wind and waves, and fear took over. He started to sink.
What did Jesus do? He immediately reached out His hand and caught Peter, saying, "Why did you doubt?" (Matthew 14:22-33)
Peter wasn’t in danger of drowning — Jesus was right there, holding him. But Peter’s fear was real. His feelings didn’t change the fact that Jesus was there to keep him safe.
God Loves You Right Where You Are
You might feel like Peter sometimes — stepping out in faith, only to be overwhelmed by fear when life gets hard. You might feel like you’re sinking. But just as Jesus reached out to Peter, God is reaching out to you.
Here’s what you need to know:
God’s love isn’t based on your performance.
You don’t have to “get it together” for God to hold you.
He loves you in your low place, just as you are.
Sometimes, we think we have to earn God’s love by trying harder — waking up early to pray, reading the Bible every day, controlling every negative thought. But God’s love isn’t earned. It’s given freely.
In Romans 5:8, it says: "While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
That means Jesus came to save us at our lowest point — not when we had it all together, but when we were struggling.
Life’s Roller Coaster and God’s Steady Hand
Think about a roller coaster again. Even when you’re secured by a harness, the ride feels wild. You’re thrown up and down, twisted through loops. You might feel scared, but the harness keeps you safe.
Life is like that.
There will be moments when you feel like you can’t hold on. Moments when you’re overwhelmed by fear, grief, or anxiety. But you don’t have to hold on — because God is holding you.
The harness may feel shaky. People in your life may fail you. Your own strength may fail.
But God will never fail.
In Deuteronomy 31:6, it says: "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you."
What Does This Mean for You?
It means you don’t have to fake strength.
You don’t have to pretend you’re not afraid.
You don’t have to perform for God to love you.
Instead, you can rest in the truth that you are held.
Even when you feel overwhelmed, He is holding you.
Even when life feels out of control, He is steady.
Even when you feel like you’re sinking, He reaches out to catch you.
In Psalm 34:18, it says: "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
God is near you — especially in your low moments.
Trust the One Who Holds You
Life’s roller coaster will continue. There will be highs and lows. There will be fear and overwhelm. But through it all, God’s promise stands firm: He will never let you go.
Unlike a harness on a ride, God’s promise is unbreakable. It won’t fail. You won’t fall.
So when fear creeps in, when life feels overwhelming, when you feel like you can’t hold on anymore — remember this: You don’t have to hold on. He’s holding you.
Let go of the fear that God will let you fall. He won’t.
His love is stronger than your feelings.
His promises are more secure than any safety harness.
And He will never let you go.
