We often hear the phrase: “Lay your burdens at the foot of the cross.”
It’s something we say in prayer, sing in worship, and encourage one another to do. And it's true — we’re invited to come to Jesus with everything we carry. But have you ever found yourself going to the cross with your struggles… and then walking away still holding them?
Maybe you've imagined yourself kneeling before the cross, placing a heavy bag — filled with your worries, your pain, your questions — right at His feet. And yet somehow, a few steps later, you’ve picked it right back up again.
Why do we do that?
Maybe we didn’t fully understand what it means to truly leave something at the cross. Maybe we forgot what we were meant to see there in the first place.
The cross isn’t just a symbol of suffering — it’s a demonstration of the most powerful love the world has ever known. It’s where Jesus looked at the weight of your life — your burdens, your brokenness, your fears — and said, “I will carry this. I will take it all, so you don’t have to.”
When we come to the cross, we are meant to remember, not just what He did — but why He did it.
Because He loves you.
Yes, you. Personally. Intimately. Entirely.
He knows what’s been weighing on your heart.
He sees the situation that keeps you up at night.
He understands the fear, the confusion, the unanswered prayers.
He knows the ache behind the smile and the questions no one else hears.
And He invites you — not just to visit the cross — but to trust Him with what you’ve been carrying.
This is not a cold transaction. It’s a divine exchange — your burden for His peace, your sorrow for His comfort, your weakness for His strength.
Romans 8:32 reminds us: “He who did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all — how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things?”
If He gave up Jesus for you, what would He possibly hold back?
And if you’re thinking, “Well… maybe this isn’t really for me. He did that for everyone. I’m just one person.”
Let me gently tell you something that may shift everything for you:
If you were the only one who would ever come to Him, He still would have gone to the cross. Just for you. That’s how personal His love is.
So the next time you find yourself carrying a weight — bring it to the cross again.
But this time, stay there a little longer. Don’t rush past the moment.
Let your heart see what He endured — for you.
Let His love speak louder than your fear.
And when you lay it down this time… don’t pick it back up.
Let His love carry it. He already has.

I love this, Cristina! I often find myself worrying still even after praying about my cares. You are right, we have to learn to let go of these burdens once we have already laid them down. Trusting in God means you don't try and carry it yourself as well. Leave it ALL to Him. Thanks for the timely reminder 💕
Really enjoyed reading this! 😊
